When I came back into the industry I didn’t know how much fun it would become for me. I’d been in the securities industry when I was much younger but I’d left to join the U.S. Navy in the mid 1980’s. The Navy directed me into social services and I stayed in that industry for about 18 years. It is not easy making the switch away from social services to the financial field. I was relieved that much of the basic knowledge stayed with me during the hiatus. Every day, now, that I come into the office there is something new to challenge me: new companies, new people, new ideas, new problems and new battles to fight for “my people” (social service never really left me!) I advocate for my companies with the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation, with brokerage firms if I can and with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission. I also advocate for other transfer agencies where appropriate. So, each day is exciting and different. First American Stock Transfer, Inc. has grown in the number of clients as well in sophistication and visibility throughout the United States. I am pleased to say we are one of the few highly respected smaller transfer agents in the country. And to think, as a smaller transfer agent, we still processed more than 3.2 billion dollars in transfer activity last year. We must be doing something right!
I have a great crew. They are thoughtful, conscientious, knowledgeable, creative, respectful, patient, love our clients and are, basically, darn good people. Most of them have been with me a long time and I believe in each and every one of them. Please allow them to “be there” for you, too. You will be very happy.
